A HENDYWOOD WORK DAY

Omygoodness, where to begin! I walk out to the shop (garage) with a few ideas, some wood, stone, buttons, and even a bit of coconut shell. Who knows what will come out, lol. - This is a weekend in my Hendywood world.

Click on the picture for it to enlarge.

A block of wood ready to be "turned" into something
b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!
Picture
Can I use this tiny amount? I think so!
Picture
Buttons that are about to lose their buttonhood. Ha!
Picture
Scraps of coconut shell...really?
O.K., I'll tackle the wood and a few buttons first. I love the Luna Face metal button. The button is initialed on the back, so I will make sure they stay visible. The heart buttons and wood are always popular.
Picture
Looks like this awesome face will fit perfectly!
Picture
Check out the initials. They stand for Nicky Epstein, the button designer.
Picture
This rosewood is simply gorgeous, even  unfinished. I cut and shaped a pendant with a hole for the button.
Picture
Perfect fit!
Picture
There is enough wood for another button. The rustic design of this heart is quite charming.
Picture
The back of the wood hoops need a bit of sanding. Notice how there is a hole for the shank of the button. (and for initials to be visible)
Picture
Finished...well, not quite, but the buttons fit. Now its time for lacquer and glue.
Branches to cuff links. They have been seen at a few weddings, from what I hear.
Picture
Ah, choices... Which branches will work best for cuff links?
Picture
Choice made, slices cut, but will the findings fit?
Picture
Gotta get rid of ugly saw marks. I love my Dremel tool :)
Picture
Big drill bit, small wood. I'm not getting my fingers anywhere near that!
Picture
Job done!! Everything fits and I still have my fingers!! Now I only have several more to do, lol!
My husband brought home a coconut one day and wanted me to try to do something with the shell. I thought he was nuts, but tried anyway. It turned out to be some of the prettiest "wood" I've worked with so far. How was I to know?
Picture
Picture
I cut a small piece of the shell and smoothed it down with my beloved Dremel tool. As you can see, finer sanding came later.
Picture
Before and after. I actually cut two of these pieces for a pair of earrings.
Picture
All my little wood pieces are ready to be lacquered.
*necklaces, cuff links, and earrings*
Time to work on some buttons! Gonna de-button 'em, oh yeah!
Picture
After cutting the shank off the back I smooth the area down with a sharpening wheel.
Picture
Buttons don't usually come with holes for necklaces, so I prep for that.
Picture
Drilling the tiny hole is tricky :)
Picture
"Charms" are now ready to be put onto chains. They make fun, funky necklaces!
The day (well, two days...) are finally coming to a close, with finished items to show off
Picture
The wood is lacquered and waiting to be glued
Picture
How cute are these cuff links - just sittin' and dryin'.
TIME FOR THE BIG REVEAL!
