An owl necklace was made using an authentic Greek domed coin. This 1 Drachma, nickel brass coin was dated 1973. I cleaned, drilled and polished this coin. The natural patina accented the beautiful details of the owl and the Phoenix. I hung this coin from a brass cable chain secured by a lobster clasp.
I domed the coin to add dimension and interest.
The owl was the symbol of goddess Athena in ancient Greece. Athena was patron of the crafts, wisdom and battle and became the patron goddess of the city of Athens. It is also considered good luck.
One side of the coin shows an owl, the symbol of the goddess Athena. The other side of the coin shows a Phoenix rising from its flames surrounded by the inscription meaning ‘Greek Democracy’ along with the date, 1973.
The coin is made from nickel and brass and has a diameter of 3/4 inch (19mm). It hangs from a 24 inch (60.9cm) brass cable chain secured by a lobster clasp.
The chain can be shortened upon request. Leave a message when ordering indicating the length you prefer.
